Apply for STEM Scholarship Program

Overview of the STEM at LCCC Scholarship Program

Lorain County Community College is proud to announce the STEM Scholarship Program. State, federal, and industry funds support the STEM Scholarship awards, intended for Lorain County Community College students pursuing STEM degrees. Scholars awarded a STEM scholarship participate in a learning community designed to build relationships with faculty, staff and students and to enhance career preparation. All scholars will complete work-based learning experience as part of their degree program. Eligible students will meet the following criteria:

  • 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher recommended (either from high school or transferring institution)
  • Pursuing a degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field, including healthcare, manufacturing, information technology, cybersecurity, automation, mechatronics, and microelectronic manufacturing systems.
  • Ability to communicate a passion and interest for pursuing a STEM degree

Many scholarships are available for new students, transfer students, LCCC students changing to a STEM degree, and LCCC associate degree graduates pursuing a Bachelor of Applied Science in Microelectronic Manufacturing Systems or Bachelor of Applied Science in Smart Industrial Automated Systems Engineering Technology. Scholarships are renewable for multiple semesters for students demonstrating successful progress toward degree and learning community participation. Award amounts range from $500 to $7,995.

*Please complete all fields in your Universal Application in addition to all questions on this application to be considered for the STEM Scholarship Program.

**University Partnership Students in the University of Toledo Computer Science & Engineering Program: In your Universal Application, you must attach your most recent transcripts and proof of enrollment in the UP Institution for the semester of the scholarship. LCCC students’ status can be accessed by LCCC’s Student Financial Aid; therefore, they are exempt of having to show proof of enrollment and transcripts.

ESSAY PROMPT

We are excited to learn more about our scholarship applicants! Please share your college and career goals and interest in pursuing a pathway in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) or healthcare. Please note, we recognize that not all opportunities are available to everyone. Your shared experiences can in a formal, traditional, or self-directed format. Feel free to include other information you think is important for our consideration of your application. However, your brief essay should be no more than 500 words and should include a thoughtful response to the following prompts:

  • What experience(s) have you had that sparked your interest in STEM? What influence, if any, did those experiences have on your decision to pursue this major? What are your career goals within the next three years?
  • Think about a significant experience that challenged you (academically or personally) and share with us: What was the challenge? What did you do to overcome the challenge? What did you learn about yourself throughout the process?
  • What excites you most about the opportunity to attend college at LCCC, or a University Partnership program, and why?
