Apply for STEM at LCCC Scholarship Program

Overview of the STEM at LCCC Scholarship Program

Graduates in science, technology, engineering, math, and medicine (known as STEM fields) are in high demand. In Northeast Ohio, manufacturing, information technology (IT), and healthcare are all strong drivers of our local economy. Employers are seeking students like you who can think creatively, work with technology, solve problems, research, and build the technology needed to propel the region forward. STEM careers are also associated with high earning potential and are expected to grow for decades to come.

Lorain County Community College is proud to announce the STEM at LCCC Scholarship Program. Federal, state, and industry funds combine to offer students at LCCC pursuing a STEM degree a scholarship. Scholars awarded a STEM scholarship participate in a learning community designed to build relationships with faculty, staff and students and to enhance career preparation. All scholars will complete a work-based learning experience as part of their degree program. Scholarship award amounts range from $500 to $7,995. Eligible students will meet the following criteria:

  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and have on file at LCCC.
  • Be a new student at LCCC.
  • Be a current student at LCCC, changing majors to a STEM academic program.
  • Meet a GPA requirement of 2.75 or higher (from high school as a new grad or at LCCC or transferring institution).
  • Be an Ohio resident and able to work in the United States.
  • Communicate a passion and interest in pursuing a STEM degree.

ESSAY PROMPT

We are excited to learn more about our scholarship applicants! Please share your college and career goals and interest in pursuing a pathway in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) or healthcare. Please note, that we recognize that not all opportunities are available to everyone. Your shared experiences can be in a formal, traditional, or self-directed format. Feel free to include other information you think is important for our consideration of your application.

Your brief essay should be no more than 500 words and should include a thoughtful response to one of the following prompts:

  • Prompt 1: What experience(s) have you had that sparked your interest in STEM? What influence, if any, did those experiences have on your decision to pursue this major? What are your career goals within the next three years?
  • Prompt 2: Think about a significant experience that challenged you (academically or personally) and share with us: What was the challenge? What did you do to overcome the challenge? What did you learn about yourself throughout the process?
  • Prompt 3: What excites you most about the opportunity to attend college at LCCC, or a University Partnership program, and why?
