Phyllis J. Goldbach Biography
From humble beginnings, Phyllis rose to the pinnacle of a profession she loved: serving as a nurse practitioner of psychiatric medicine at Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Administration Medical Center. She earned degrees from the University of Akron, Ashland University, and Kent State University and paid forward this knowledge and opportunity, serving as an adjunct instructor at Lorain County Community College for more than 20 years. In 2017, Phyllis was recognized with the Barbara Donaho Distinguished Leadership in Learning Award for her contributions to mentoring and training Kent State’s nursing students, many of whom she befriended and kept in touch with well beyond graduation. Phyllis passed away on October 5, 2021, and the Phyllis J. Goldbach Memorial Scholarship was established soon thereafter by her family and friends to honor her contributions to the field of nursing and provide financial support for a next generation of healthcare professionals trained at LCCC, an institution she loved.
